South Padre Island, Texas:
Not only does South Padre Island have beautiful beaches and clear blue water, but it offers so much more. For the adventurous spring-breaker there are plenty of things to do! Some examples include kiteboarding, deep-sea fishing, and dolphin-watching trips. If you’re looking for some cheap activities, South Padre Island offers plenty of these. You can explore the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, tour the museums of Port Isabel (only $10 for all three locations), or just spend a day exploring Port Isabel which is full of culture and a nice break from the typical spring break party mood. South Padre Island is an especially great place to go for Texans as it’s not too far of a drive for those living in eastern cities. You can avoid airfare entirely and road trip!
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina:
The beaches are the main reason people love Myrtle Beach, and while they may not be as beautiful as South Padre Island’s, they are still quite lovely. Myrtle Beach offers a lot of other great activities if you’re not looking to spend your whole vacation by the ocean. Some options include shopping at outlet malls, spending a day at an amusement park and checking out the Broadway Grand Prix race park. Myrtle Beach also has over 100 golf courses from amateur to professional levels. If you bring a big group, you should think about getting a vacation rental. It’s cheaper than hotels if you’re bringing a lot of friends plus you have the option of cooking instead of dining out!
New Orleans, Louisiana:
If you’re not the beach-going type, NOLA is an inexpensive spring break option, with tons of culture, clubs, and great music. New Orleans is famous for its Mardi Gras celebrations, of course, but it’s pretty much a party all year round. New Orleans offers such a variety of interesting things to do and see. You can admire the European architecture, sample the tasty creole cuisine and get your groove on to the jazz, blues and rock ‘n roll in the clubs and up and down the streets. The big thing you want to stay away from here is getting a hotel in the French Quarter. Although you’ll definitely want to check it out while you’re there, rent out one of the many bed and breakfasts those are a bit further away. It will definitely be worth the savings!
Other Savings Tips for Spring Break:
- Use your rewards points for flights and hotel stays! Often, if you have a company card in your name, you can use the accumulated points for your own travel. Just make sure to check if it’s allowed!
- Shop around for the best airfare. This seems obvious, but it can be a long and tedious process. However, it is worth it. Especially when you are looking for cheap airfare and hotel deals. Although it’s annoying to do all that searching, just think about how much money you’ll save!
- Set a budget for spending before you reach your location . Allot an amount for shopping, eating out, and entertainment. If you don’t plan ahead, you may end up splurging without thinking about it.
